The name “Sexton” comes from the old Latin word “sacritanus”, which means “keeper of sacred objects” and is used for the person who prepares the graves of the dead and the last to send them to their eternal rest. Hence the distinctive skull of the bottle. The Sexton is bold and challenging – it challenges us to make choices every day that will turn our lives into a story worth telling.
The result of a combination of old Irish traditions in whiskey art and modern experiments in the aging process, The Sexton presents a changing and evolving Ireland that perfectly captures the romance and value of the past and the optimism and creativity of the future. Gaining exceptional depth of taste from its wine-soaked barrels of Oloroso sherry, this young single malt whiskey remarkably balances the taste of rich, dried fruit with light, oaky notes and a soft finish that leaves us with a desire for more.
At the forefront of all this is the master blender Alex Thomas – one of the still few women in the world of whiskey masters, who has been perfecting her art for 13 years. Her interest in the aging phase of the whiskey process led her to look for the perfect sherry barrels in which The Sexton was created. Only three ingredients are used for this worthy purpose – 100% malted barley, yeast and water from Ireland, but the techniques for making Irish single malt whiskey and this key moment of aging make The Sexton really special. It is aged for 4 years in carefully selected casks to become a new and fresh kind of single malt whiskey, which is bright and bold, but also with an extremely comprehensible taste.
